Tears and Fears of an American Capitalist
Today is February 10, 2009: the day the noble experiment called America received its death-blow.This death-blow has come in the form of a so-called "Stimulus" Bill whose actual content was designed not for the purpose of economic stimulus, but rather for the purpose of imposing a Socialist Regime upon an inattentive American populace. The true effects of this Bill will become clear only after it is too late--after the money has been borrowed and wasted, the engine of our economy gutted, twisted, and left to wither, and our pride in the American way of life has been ripped from our breast.
This Bill was passed in total defiance of the wishes of the majority of Americans. This Bill was passed in total defiance of the tenets of the Constitution. I believe the passage of this Bill may well constitute treason, but am sure it constitutes a violation of the duties owed to the electorate. For a political body that passes legislation for the sole purpose of enlarging and extending its own reign of power, rather than to implement the wishes of the people it purports to represent, acts outside the authority granted to it by the electorate.
The activities during the last week in the United States Congress constitute a political coupe. The people's representatives have betrayed the principles upon which this Constitutional Representative Democracy was founded. They have betrayed the faith placed in them by the multitudes. They have betrayed the cause of Freedom. And for what? A massive power grab guaranteed to keep them in power for generations to come.
Understand that our government, and now our economy, have been hijacked by Socialists whose values will increasingly result in the enslavement of the Individual to the needs of the Majority. They don't care that it will mean the financial ruin of the nation. They don't care that it will cause America to fall to a second-rate power in the world. They don't care that the quality of each of our lives will reduce with each passing year.
Why don't they care? Because to Them, such results are JUST. To Them, the only world that is FAIR is a world in which everyone has the SAME quality of life. What do they care that it means that quality of life will have to be a fairly low one? They won't have to live there with the rest of us...because they will be well protected from such an outcome: they will be living high on the hog, and ruling the nation.
This betrayal of the inattentive electorate does not absolve certain American voters of their complicity in this travesty. Too many have become too soft. Too many have taken their freedoms and luxuries for granted. Too many have refused to bother to become educated in politics, economics, or philosophy because they were simply too busy living their beautiful lives. Too many have allowed themselves to be persuaded by pretty words, ambiguous promises, and the emotional ecstasy associated with coming out on the side of "hope and change." Too few have demanded to know specifics, facts, and to understand the underlying principles and goals of political candidates. Too few have placed their logic and reason ahead of their emotions--emotions which are easily manipulated in the absence of political savvy.
Those voters are about to learn a hard lesson. Unfortunately, they have dragged down the rest of us with them. I only hope they see the light before we hit the point of no-return...if we haven't hit it already. They asked for it--I HOPE they experience the full force of the "CHANGE" that has just been unilaterally and illegitimately imposed on this country.
A year ago, I would have laughed at the idea that we could be brought to Civil War in my lifetime. Now, I'm afraid we're not going to be able to restore our freedoms and our country without it.
Good, sound comments and observations. You're not the only one frustrated and angry with these political events. May the power-lusters and their willing dupes reap everything they sow.
